This is our protest against the government's abuse of the Sedition Act and we urge you to join us in resisting the use of this draconian act against Malaysian youth, activists and opposition members.
The Sedition Act in Malaysia is a law prohibiting discourse deemed as seditious such as 'which is a very wide category and almost everything can fall into the ambit of 'seditious'.
The act was originally enacted by the colonial authorities of British Malaya in 1948 to protect the colonies against freedom fighters.
The act criminalises speech with "seditious tendencies", including that which would "bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against" the government or engender "feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races". However this has been widely interpreted and abused to suit the whims of the ruling party.
Sadly, we observe this Act has been used widely to protect the ruling party from any criticisms and it has been selectively used to prosecute opposition leaders in order to harass them with legal suits and to put them under threat of disqualification from being MP or Adun. This selective prosecution must be condemned strictly by us, should not be compromised.

1. Abolish Sedition Act
2. Drop the charges
3. Do not put into place a similar draconian act
