The Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase

is one of the premier gem and mineral shows in the world. The event takes place annually in late January and February at approximately 40 to 49 different locations across the city of Tucson, Arizona.

Most of the shows are open to the public, except for certain trade shows which require registration with a business license. There is not one single location for gems, minerals and fossils, but rather dealers occupy dozens of locations across the city: many big hotels and most motels are occupied for this occasion, with professionals displaying their specimens in such locations as hotel bedrooms, lobbies, tents, and lawns.

All of the shows have attendees from all across the world which includes the general public, experts, beginning collectors, museum employees, dealers, retailers, and researchers. Many museums and universities, such as the Smithsonian Institution and the Sorbonne have displayed at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show and all of these other different shows bring in over $110 million to the local Tucson economy.

China (Changsha) International Mineral and Gem Show (CMGS) is the sole national-level professional show of its kind authorized by the State Council of China, and holds the honor of the first international mineral and gem show in China. The People’s Government of Hunan Province and the Ministry of Land and Resources of the People’s Republic of China jointly organize the show, and as an annual show, it has become the largest platform for mineral and gemstone trading in Asia.

Mineralientage München is the largest mineral show in Europe, held in the Bavarian city of Munich (München in German), a few weeks after the Oktoberfest. It began in the early sixties (so 2008 is the 45 edition).

The fair takes place in late October or early November at the new Trade Fair Center built on the fields of the old Munich airport. With an area over 36,000 m2, it is divided into three pavilions, it has more than 1,000 exhibitors, from more than 50 countries, and they show a very wide variety of minerals, fossils, gems and jewelry.

Every year, the Mineral Show includes a monographic theme: Opal from Australia (2008), Minerals from the Himalayan Mountains (2007), The Mineral Treasures of the Houston Museum (2006), The Beauty of Agates (2005) ... With other themed exhibitions and conferences as well.

The second largest mineral event in Europe is the “Mineral & Gem à Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines” held in the small town of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines in a valley in the Alsace mountains in France. This exciting show is normally held at the end of June each year.

This is the best and longest running mineral show in France with nearly 900 exhibitors from around the world, including most of the top European dealers. Over 25,000 mineral enthusiasts come to the show! Crystal Classics will exhibit in the Grand Theatre together with other high quality mineral dealers.

The streets surrounding the Theatre are full of tents and marquees filled with a huge range of not only minerals but also fossils, meteorites and gems, for wholesale and collectors. The atmosphere is likened to a Bazaar.

The show is open to professionals on Thursday and Friday, and the public on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets for the public can be purchased on the gate on Saturday and Sunday.

Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines is a natural tourist area, and is located on the “Route d’Argent” or The Silver road at the heart of the Lièpvre Valley, between Strasbourg and Colmar, 20km west of Sélestat, 20km east of Saint-Dié, in the heart of the Vosges mountains.
