加入一些汽车隔音的知识:
There are 2 types of noise:
1)Structure-borne noise (Noise that travels in vehicle structure)
2)Airborne noise (Noise that travels in air)
Example of structure borne noise:
Consider an running engine as a source of vibration. When an engine is running, the vibration will propagate over the whole car structure, such as roof, door panels, etc. The vibrating roof, door panels will transfer energy into air inside the car cabin, and then generate noise.
Example of airborne noise:
Consider an running engine as a source of noise. The noise will propagate through the air and get into cabin through holes or leakage and across the surface of car structure.
There are 4 major ways to soundproof your car:
1) Isolation - reduce transmission of vibration energy (Structure borne noise)
Eg: Engine mount, suspension bush,etc
2) Damping - dissipate vibration energy into heat (Structure borne noise)
Eg: Constrained Layer Damper (CLD) like STP Gold, Dynamat Xtreme, etc
3) Barrier - reduce transmission of sound energy (Airborne noise)
Eg: Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) like Dynamat Dynapad, CAE VB-4, etc
4) Absorption - dissipate sound energy into heat (Airborne noise)
Eg: 3M Thinsulate, STP Biplast, open-cell foam, etc
To effectively soundproof your car, you need to use different types of material to tackle the noise. 3M Thinsulate sold here is one of the noise absorption material. Depending on area of treatment, you will get better result by combining 3M Thinsulate with CLD or/and MLV.
A very common example:
You have put on CLD like STP iSilver all over your door, floor, and roof (close to 100% coverage). The car become quieter but you still can hear noise like wind noise. CLD only reduces vibration of car structure, hence reducing structure borne noise. Wind noise will still get into cabin through gap between doors, hollow car structure, tiny gap at door handle, etc. Wind noise will also get into cabin through windows due to its low sound transmission loss. However, we are unable to treat the glass. But you can treat the door area by putting a layer of sound absorbing material behind door panel to absorb the wind noise. You can also put a heavy layer of MLV (high sound transmission loss) to block the noise if you don't care about the extra weight added to the doors.
