FOR Selangor's budding shuttlerSoong Joo Ven, his tears of despair turned into joy when he swept twotitles at stake in the boys' Under-12 category at the National JuniorCircuit Grand Prix Finals in Terengganu last month.
Earlier this year, the 12-years-old SJK (C) Chen Moh Year Six pupil wasforced to skip National Junior Circuit Zone A opening leg because theSelangor Badminton Association (SBA) was in a limbo with internalcrisis during that period.
However, the junior shuttler bounced back strongly to clinch the secondleg boys' Under-12 singles and also finished as runner-up in thedoubles with Zulhelmi Zulkiffli in May.

| Besides sealing the singles title at the season's grand finale, Joo Ven also captured the doubles pairing up with Zulhelmi.
In addition, they were the Malaysia Schools Sports Council (MSSM) boys' Under-12 doubles champions this year.
“I am happy that everything turned out well eventually. I am hopingthat I will earn a slot at the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) nextyear,” said Joo Ven.
At the recent meet, Joo Ven avenged his defeat against hot favouriteDarren Isaac of Kuala Lumpur to advance to the final in the singles.
At the MSSM this year, Isaac showed him the exit in third round of the boys' Under-12 singles.
Selangor's Under-12 coach Abdul Halim Abu Bakar said Joo Ven has thetalent to do well with his crafty game plan and ability to read thegame well on court.
“Although he featured in both the singles and doubles, he was wellprepared for it. In the match against Darren, we told him to put theshuttle in play and not to fear Darren's attacking. And, he maintainedhis composure to upstage Darren with a convincing win,” said Halim.
Joo Ven’s father Soong Nyen Yew added his son went through a very thorough preparation for the Grand Prix Finals.
“I cannot exactly describe the intensity of the training. But, it was tough. Currently, he trains five times a week.”
For the past four years since Joo Ven took up the game under the SetiaBadminton Academy training programme in Subang Jaya, Nyen Yew has beendevoting his time to accompany his son for training.
“When he goes for training, I will take half a day off work to be withhim. Personally, I want him to join the national junior set-up at BJSSand have the privilege to train full time to realise his dream to be anational player,” said Nyen Yew, a 44-years-old businessman.
Nyen Yew, an avid social badminton player also hopes that his son will start to defeat him in the game next year.
“My greatest dream is to see him represent the country one day. I willdefinitely be a satisfying experience if he makes it all the way to thetop.”
