Liverpool: Reds Sign Aussie Starlet
16-year-old midfielder Jake Brimmer has penned a three-year deal and will join the Academy full-time this summer...
Liverpool have signed promising teenager Jake Brimmer after the Australian impressed in a series of trials.
The club first spotted his potential during their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia last summer and, with A-League side Melbourne Victory in talks over a move, acted quickly to entice him to Merseyside.
In quotes published earlier today by Australian daily the Herald Sun, the youngster revealed his delight at completing the switch.
"It's a big move but hopefully it's not just three years," said Brimmer. "I want to make a career out of it, make the first team and make it my life.
"It's unbelievable, I've been over three times and the -experience gets better. It's -surreal.
"Walking around the changing rooms, going to Melwood and warming up at Anfield for an under-21 game, after supporting Liverpool as a kid, my childhood dream is coming true."
Of Maltese decent, Brimmer holds a European Union passport which has allowed him to join the Reds now rather than when he turns 18.
Despite his ability, there is clearly still a long way to go before the starlet can replicate countrymen Craig Johnston, Harry Kewell and Brad Jones by pulling on the famous red shirt at first team level.
"We're delighted to have Jake Brimmer join us this summer,`` added Liverpool Academy coach Alex Inglethorpe.
"When he arrives he will be a full-time scholar, which will see him attend our comprehensive secondary school, Rainhill.
"He will also take part in community work which replaces Academy players cleaning boots and baths of the senior team."
Brimmer, who played previously for local side Nunawading City, is described by the publication as a 'crafty midfielder'.
