Liverpool have made a new approach for Sporting Lisbon centre-back Tiago Ilori, according to reports from The Mirror. The Reds have been chasing the 20-year-old all summer, but their interest has cooled of late after their initial £3m offer was rejected. But, with news that Sebastian Coates will be out of action for around six months, Brendan Rodgers is keen to push through a move for Ilori. The Uruguayan’s injury leaves the Merseysiders with Kolo Toure, Daniel Aggerand the out-of-favour Martin Skrtel as their only fit, established centre-backs. Ilori is said to be valued at around £6m, and Sporting are willing to sell for around £6m after the youngster rebuffed their recent offer of a contract extension. Liverpool are keen to take advantage of this, and are hopeful that a deal can be reached before the transfer window closes. The Portuguese U-20 international is thought of as one of the top emerging defenders in Europe, and has often been lauded for his pace and technical ability. Rodgers sees him as a player that can slot straight into his first-team set-up and develop into a future Anfield idol.
