Update: 20 injured climbers sent to hospitals, 17 missing, 172 rescued from Mt Kinabalu

RANAU: A total of 20 injured climbers have been sent to several hospitals for medical treatment after they were rescued from Mount Kinabalu. District police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohr Farhan Lee Abdullah said of the total 14 were hospitalised including one who is in a coma while six were given outpatient treatment either at the district hospital here, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital in Kota kinabalu. Since search and rescue operations began yesterday two were confirmed dead, a mountain guide and a student from Singapore. They were identified as Robi Sipanggi, 30 and Wee Ying Ping, 12. At the time of the first earthquake at 7.15am, Farhan said there were 195 climbers, 45 employees of the Sutera Sanctuary Lodges, six Sabah Park Rangers and 59 mountain guides including 11 via ferrata guides. Now search is on for 17 people who remain missing. This include nine from Singapore, eight students and a teacher as well as a Japanese climber.
