新加坡高薪吸纳本地员工 未来两年人力严重短缺

(新山16日讯)柔佛依斯干达特区内酒店业如雨后春笋般林立,而新加坡却以合约高薪,大量吸纳本地的员工,未来两年本地业者将面临人力短缺的严重问题。
另一方面,本地持有酒店管理文凭证书的学生计有99巴仙并没有直接进入本科的行业,这将造成酒店业者的另一波人手荒。
马来西亚酒店协会柔佛州分会主席东姑阿末费扎今日透露,只有百份之一的学生进入本科的行业,其余的学生选择进入电讯业和快餐业等,使到本地业者茫然无助。
东姑阿末费扎今日是在滨海丽晶酒店主办的“2011年丽晶马拉松”竞赛后向记者发表谈话,出席者尚包括丽晶酒店执行董事王穆享、总经理穆斯达法卡玛。
东姑阿末费扎说,当局已经意识到此问题的严重性;因此,酒店业者和马来西亚酒店协会将协调合作开办课程,让有意参与酒店业的学生在酒店内实习,其中实践课程占70巴仙,理论课程占30巴仙。
他说,新山的酒店业者面对新加坡和马六甲的强大竞争,造成客流量的逐年减少也是当局的困扰之一。
他说,新加坡的两个娱乐城吸纳了大批的员工过去,以合约年资满2年即可获得新币1万元的花红来吸引本地人,因此,当局有必要制定法规限制员工的流失。
他说,该协会已经呈上备忘录予内阁,并且等待当局的批准,不过,他并没有进一步透露有关的详情。
飞萤取消万隆班机 每日流失约50印尼旅客东姑阿末费扎说,最近飞萤航空取消印尼万隆的班机服务,也造成每日流失约50印尼旅客到新山来,间接造成酒店业者的损失。
较早前,新山市长博汉在致辞时说(讲词由市议会秘书代读),酒店业者和市议会联合举办这项马拉松赛,有助于提升酒店业者的形象和服务品质,同时带动旅游业的发展。
共有500余名本地酒店员工以及来自各州、邻国新加坡等马拉松好手的参加,难得的是有2名来自肯亚的好手参加,他们分别获得10公里赛程的冠、亚军。 |

Iskandar Malaysia projects aim to enhance connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore.
CHINESE developer Zhuoda Real Estate Group likens the combination of Iskandar Malaysia and Singapore to the successful Shenzhen-Hong Kong model.
When China first opened up in the late 1970s, the southern city of Shenzhen, just across the Hong Kong border, was handpicked by Deng Xiaoping to jumpstart the country’s economic reforms.
The unknown city flourished together with Hong Kong, and Zhuoda Real Estate Group hopes that Iskandar Malaysia, where it intends to invest, will be as successful as Shenzhen.

“Malaysia and Singapore are only separated by the Straits of Johor,” Zhuoda Real Estate Group vice-chairman Wang Binwu said.
“In future, hundreds of thousands of Singaporeans will make Iskandar Malaysia as their first choice living destination. I have confidence in Malaysia and our investment there.”
On Sept 23, in Beijing, the company based in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province, and Iskandar Investment Bhd signed two memorandums of understanding (MoU) on their strategic partnership in Iskandar Malaysia.
The first MoU will see the formation of a joint-venture company between Iskandar Investment Bhd and Zhuoda to develop a RM158mil residential project on a 72,850sq m site in Medini North.
The second MoU is for the sale of a land in the Medini business district at a cost of RM70.8mil to the Chinese developer.
Wang said, upon the completion of future projects in Iskandar Malaysia such as subway and tunnels, the connectivity between the two nations would be further enhanced.
Zhuoda chief operating officer Yang Hanqing said Iskandar Malaysia could depend on the strong economic fundamentals of the developed state of Singapore.
Zhuoda will be the first Chinese company to invest in Medini, which is earmarked to be a lifestyle and residential district in Iskandar Malaysia.
Iskandar Malaysia is the catalyst development region in Johor drawn up by the Government to spur new economic growth in Malaysia.
Iskandar Investment Bhd president and CEO Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim said the agreement reached between both parties was a testament of the value Iskandar Investment could provide to its international partners.
He said the project undertaken by Zhuoda would add vibrancy to Medini North’s property market which would probably take shape by next year with the opening of the Legoland Malaysia, a retail shopping mall and other properties.
Iskandar Investment and Zhuoda should be signing the definitive agreements on the projects at the Third World Chinese Economic Forum in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 3.
Malaysian Investment Deve-lopment Authority (Mida) Shanghai office director Simon Lee said Chinese businessmen had not shown keen interest in investing in the property market in Malaysia.
“Generally, they think that the property market is not so vibrant. But, we told them that our market is more sustainable and stresses long-term returns,” he said.
Among the common questions raised by Chinese companies at investment forums organised by Malaysian authorities in China are about land ownership by foreigners, property prices and business equity, he said.
Lee said Iskandar Malaysia was one of the five economic corridors that the Government was promoting vigorously to attract investments from China.
According to the Iskandar Regional Development Authority, Iskandar Malaysia has recorded a total investment of RM75.96bil from November 2006 to June 30 this year, with foreign investments accounting for 40% of them.
Last month, Malaysia Property Inc (MPI), in collaboration with Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shanghai chapter, organised a property investment forum in Shanghai which attracted more than 200 participants.
“We have good enquiries on the property price trend and homebuyers wanted to find out more on the areas where the projects of the five participating Malaysian developers are located,” said MPI vice-president (I) Chan Tze Wee. |

数大型发展计划带动房地产 优美城变黄金地

(古来17日讯)在数项大型发展计划的带动下,优美城一带的房地产价格飙升,各类产业价格的涨幅介于20%至50%不等。
这些大型发展项目包括:即将于11月落成启用、坐落于优美城的柔佛国际名牌商品城(JPO);优美城通往马新第二通道高速大道已完成;极有可能在士乃机场附近马来西亚依斯干达特区范围内设立中国-东协贸易综合城。
加上宽中分校及古来华小二校在优美城落户,当地一带的房地产价格逐年攀升。
店屋价涨一倍
根据一名金融界人士指出,优美城一带店屋之前的价格是30万令吉左右,最近有些上涨至60万令吉,涨幅可说翻一倍。店屋的租金也跟着上涨。
“之前店屋的租金大多介于2000令吉至3000令吉左右,现在租金也上涨至4000至5000令吉。这主要是因为名牌商品城即将在11月开幕,再加上连接优美城及第二通道的高速大道即将完工,整个交通枢纽的完善带动周边产业价值的提升。”
他说,优美城新建的房屋价格也上升,之前双层排屋价格介于20万至30万令吉左右,如今新建的房屋价格已上涨至40万令吉以上。
此外,他说,富士康集团进驻优美城工业区也起着积极的带动作用。
“由于富士康集团在优美城工业区设厂,导致周边厂房及房屋的价格也跟着上升,因为一些周边的供应商或员工也可能跟着进驻优美城一带,无形中也带动优美城一带的经济及产业活动。”
郑振贤:新山发展饱和 商家应把握良机投资
州务大臣特别事务官郑振贤受访时表示,随着名牌商品城的开幕及优美城通往第二通道的交通枢纽的完工,优美城一带的产业价格肯定会上涨。
他认为,优美城地点适中,交通方便,四通八达,再加上坐落于依斯干达特区内,种种的有利因素将会带动优美城一带的产业价值呈上升的趋势。
“优美城的双层排楼之前售价为28万令吉,如今兴建的排楼已上涨至40万令吉。当然不排除建筑材料涨价的因素,不过,考量的因素更是其中一个关键因素,这当中包括名牌商品城的启动及交通枢纽的便利。”
他说,另一个因素是新山的发展建设已经达到饱和点,未来5年的发展趋势将是往北迁移,其中古来及士乃是投资者投资产业的最佳地点。
“商家应该把握良机,看准这个时机进行投资,否则,一旦价格持续上涨,到时可能已经失去最佳的投资时机。”
古亚来:助中小企业拓商机 士乃机场附近拟建贸易城
中国-东协贸易综合城董事经理古亚来受访时表示,计划设立在士乃机场附近的中国-东协贸易综合城,主要是为中小企业提供一个展销及贸易平台,协助中小企业开发市场,寻找商机。
引进中国投资者
他说,他们计划引进中国投资者的资金,在依斯干达发展区士乃的范围内大展拳脚,提供本地及东协国家的商家一个经营及展销平台,带动经济活动。
“这个项目一旦成功,配合士乃国际机场、丹绒柏勒巴斯港口及马新第二通道等交通枢纽,肯定能够吸引许多中国、东亚国家的商人到来。届时本区的产业市场肯定更加活络,产业价格可能会再上涨。”
他说,贸易城的设计包括各项物流、信息流等系统一应俱全,他们计划将贸易城分为清真食品区及非清真食品区,让来自中国及世界各地的清真食品的商家到来进行交易。
“我们公司将会为整个贸易城及商家提供一个经营模式及软件系统,以加盟店的模式进行贸易城的策划及经营。”
钟汉辉:富士康集团进驻 产业增值带动经济
优美城新祥和药行有限公司东主钟汉辉受访时表示,优美城的店屋从原本的32万令吉已上升至目前的60万令吉。而住宅的价格也明显上涨。
“之前约30万令吉的房子,目前已上升至40万,主要原因是优美城拥有宽中分校、国中及古来二校。再加上交通便利以及即将开幕的名牌商品城,导致该处的产业价值大增。”
他说,富士康集团进驻优美城工业区,也是一个主要的因素。因为随着富士康的到来,至少会有2000个员工到优美城上班,无形中带动本区的产业活动及经济活动。
刘明昌:四通八达 优美城交通方便
优美城居民协会主席刘明昌受访时表示,古来二校的完成及名牌商品城即将开幕,带动优美城一带的产业价格上升至少10%至30%。优美城的地理位置优越,也是其中一个重要的因素。
“优美城地点适中,交通四通八达,加上宽中分校、古来二校及名牌商品城的设立,本区的产业价格肯定还会上涨。工业区的设立也是一个刺激产业价格上升的其中一个因素。” |

More people may need to look for a global health insurance plan if they move to Malaysia in the future, as the nation is said to be a destination that will grow in popularity for foreign workers.
The Daily Telegraph reports that the development of a new metropolis three times the size of Singapore that will include industrial zones, a financial park and a film studio is set to attract investors and expatriates from around the world.
Planned to be mature by 2025, the Iskandar Malaysia project is expected to create around 800,000 new jobs.
Thousands of homes are also to be constucted for the development, which may attract people who work in neighbouring Singapore with the promise of cheaper properties to buy and rent.
Sally Ann Wilkinson, a spokeswoman for Merlin Entertainment Group, which is investing in the area, said: "This is a great location close to the key markets of Singapore as well as Malaysia and the fast-growing leisure destination Iskandar - and we are confident that it will be a huge success."
Recently, the HSBC 2011 Expat Explorer rated Malaysia as the tenth best destination in the world for expats, while Singapore was fourth. |

国内外投资比重6:4 柔南特区吸金778亿

(新加坡19日讯)马来西亚依斯干达特区(柔南特区)自2006年开展至今年9月,各项目累积投资额高达778亿2000万令吉,当中60%来自国内投资,40%才是外资。
依斯干达特区发展局总执行长依斯迈依布拉欣表示,上述数据显示该特区的发展从原本对外国投资者的依赖,转变变成由国内企业带动。
他说,上述累积投资额当中,60%(466亿3000万令吉)资金来自本地投资者,余下40%(311亿9000万令吉)为外资。
他昨日受邀在2011年环球企都新加坡商业领袖高峰会上发表演说,之后召开记者会,向马新媒体透露特区的最新投资情况。柔州总警长拿督莫达也陪同出席记者会。
投资者有信心
依斯迈依布拉欣也说,今年为止,前四大投资者皆是本地企业,依序分别是大马海事重工(MMHE)在油气领域投下23亿令吉资金、柔佛置地(Johor Land)投资8亿9000万令吉在本身的拿督翁花园乡镇合资企业、One Medini 以5亿2000万令吉投资美迪尼社区与商区发展计划、联马置地(UM Land)也投下4亿令吉在位于至达城的马来西亚精英大学(HELP University)校园与民宅发展计划。
他说,这数据反映,已在该特区投资的本地投资者对特区发展计划具有信心,以及该特区对国内外投资者的吸引力。
他披露,在依特区发展计划下,制造业领域在上述期间吸引的投资额最多,有295亿2000万令吉,其次是房地产领域,投资额258亿4000万令吉,排行第三的是公用事业、旅游与其他领域,投资额161亿8000万令吉,而政府领域的投资额有62亿8000万令吉。
特区数大计划即将营运
依斯迈依布拉欣强调,从今年末季到明年末季,是马来西亚依斯干达特区的转捩点,数项在教育、旅游领域的重要发展计划,如教育城、柔佛国际名牌商城、乐高乐园等已在运作或即将开放营运。
不少发展与商业投资需要上下游全力支持各别的价值链,而这都有赖于中小企业来完成相关生态系统。
可创造85万就业机会
他说,有关重大发展计划一旦落实,将帮助特区吸引更多投资。
此外,马来西亚依斯干达特区预计可创造85万个就业机会,该特区到了2025年将发展至成熟期。自2006年设立以来,该特区已制造了2万个工作机会。
新加坡商家举足轻重
依斯迈依布拉欣说,新加坡商家在马来西亚依斯干达特区的投资向来稳定,尤其在制造业领域至少保持在前五名,未来该国在特区发展上将成为关键投资者。
投资逐渐增加
他也乐观认为,该国在该特区的投资会逐渐增加。
他说,截至今年6月,该特区累积的总投资额达759亿6000万令吉,其中新加坡投资占了约6%,包括制造业领域的36亿7000万令吉,以及服务领域的4亿6300万令吉。而新加坡在特区制造业领域的投资目前排行第三。
他说,上述投资排名经常有所变更,惟新加坡资金在制造业的投资一直保持稳定,至少都可维持前五名位置。
他提到,新加坡外资注入在服务领域的4亿6300万令吉,当中有1亿令吉投资在医疗保健。
他说,若增加新加坡商家在地产、零售领域的投资数据,相信该国在特区的投资比率会超过6%。
他说,这带出强烈的讯息,即新加坡在特区发展方面将会成为关键投资者。
政府明年设20亿元融资基金 盼更多企业拥入柔南
政府明年会成立一项总值20亿令吉中小企业融资基金,依斯迈依布拉欣期待届时有更多地产、服务、制造业领域的本地中小企业受惠,令相关企业积极参与马来西亚依斯干达特区发展,分得一杯羹。
他说,上述基金将在明年成立,列明在日前由首相拿督斯里纳吉公布的2012年财政预算案里。
他说,政府会安排指定的回教银行管理该基金,并期待这个基金能够帮到地产、服务、制造业领域的本地中小企业,令相关企业更能够密集参与特区发展,从中分得经济蛋糕。
他说,该基金能够提升本地中小企业的地位,有助于相关企业与来自新加坡的中小企业携手合作,一同参与该特区的经济发展。
商业领袖每年分享经验
今年迈入第八个年头的环球企都新加坡商业领袖高峰会,是由新加坡经济发展局与新加坡工商联合总会联合呈献的一项重要商业大会,每年吸引卓越的国际知名主讲嘉宾,包括备受推崇的思想领袖与决策者前来参与盛会。
他们的参与与经验分享,使得这项活动成为商业领袖们务必出席的亚洲商业大会。

台商抢进“东南亚深圳”

新加坡讯,台湾投资者正在抢进有“东南亚深圳”之称的马来西亚伊斯甘达开发区,投资项目数和投资额均名列前茅。
伊斯甘达经济区位于马来西亚柔佛州的南部,紧靠新加坡。当年宣布兴建这个开发区的马来西亚前首相巴达维把伊斯甘达比喻为深圳,把新加坡比喻为香港。
伊斯甘达区域发展机构(IRDA)首席执行员依布拉欣日前在新加坡举行的环球企都大会上表示,伊斯甘达特区截至今年第三季为止,共累积吸引了高达778亿2000万令吉(约316亿4300万新元)的总投资额。
这个总投资额是从2006年特区创建以来开始计算,其中的60%(446亿3000万令吉)是来自马来西亚的国内投资,来自马国以外的投资额则占其余的40%(311亿9000万令吉)。
而在外部的投资者中,来自台湾的投资表现令人瞩目,去年的投资额和项目个案数,均名列第三。
根据马来西亚投资当局的披露,2010年内,按照投资额计算日本投资额最大,香港和台湾分别列第二和第三,新加坡则列第四。
如果按照投资项目个案数,新加坡去年投资在伊斯甘达的项目数最多,其次为日本和台湾。
尽管当局没有公布台商对伊斯甘达投资的数字,但从公布的新加坡投资数据可见一斑。新加坡从2006年到今年6月底为止,累积承诺对伊斯甘达投资41.3亿令吉(17亿新元),其中36.7亿令吉,是投资于制造业,其余投资于服务业。
伊斯甘达经济区的面积三倍于新加坡,整个发展计划预计在2025年完成。
依布拉欣说,依斯干达经济特区发展蓝图可以分为三个阶段,第一个计划与基础建设的阶段已经结束,从今年到2015年会是强化与刺激经济增长的阶段,之后的十年则是要在维持的同时寻求创新。

AS ISKANDAR MALAYSIA begins to take shape, it is an exciting time for the developmental region. Many projects are slated to launch next year. Its progress is something that will also benefit Singapore's future growth. Already, we are seeing the benefits of closer bilateral relations as Temasek Holdings and Khazanah Nasional Bhd embark on two projects within Medini, the 650 hectare township development within the Iskandar Development Region in South Johor.

It is clear that partnerships, alongside the government's increased involvement in the private sector, are crucial to the success of Iskandar Malaysia.
Although collaborations have spurred increased interest in investments from across the causeway and the SME community, there is still much for Iskandar Malaysia to do if it is to fully achieve success.
The three areas of focus now are on making sure that:
(1) the planning and delivery model works;
(2) that safety and security is ensured; and
(3) that Iskandar's economic and regulatory framework remains independent, with consistent policies in place for the region to achieve long-term confidence and success.
By adopting the Master Concessionaire delivery model, Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) has created partnerships with private sector delivery partners such as Global Capital & Development (GCD), who are committed to the long-term interests and success of new townships such as Medini.
The demand-driven approach to master planning is really what spurs the Medini zone, and this is predicated on public-private partnerships that are beneficial to all stakeholders. Working with private sector partners adds strength to the Malaysian government's ability to deliver effective infrastructure, development projects and township management services, thereby enhancing the facilities over the life of the asset.
Driving investment
This planning and delivery model is driving investment from regional players and attracting international companies wanting to invest in Asia. Currently, Iskandar Malaysia has been making headway with the launch of EduCity and upcoming launches of LEGOLAND Malaysia, Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia, and Gleneagles Medini Hospital. The success of these first movers ensures that Johor and Singapore are creating a compelling business ecosystem, playing off each other to drive development in Iskandar Malaysia.
It is no surprise that Iskandar Malaysia should be seen as an attractive business proposition for Singapore-based SMEs. For one thing, Iskandar Malaysia's vast land area ensures that SMEs have a viable space to expand into, at a fraction of the operation costs in Singapore. Furthermore, the close proximity with Singapore ensures that Singapore-based SMEs can still oversee their operations closely and conveniently.
Iskandar Malaysia already has a burgeoning business eco-system that allows for companies to easily recruit skilled workers, including foreign talent; this will in turn build a community of educated and affluent residents where people live and work as responsible members of that community.
The aforementioned demand-driven plan that is predicated on the social effect of a fully integrated and effectively designed environment is perhaps the most effective approach to safety and security. To further inspire confidence among investors, master concessionaires can implement 'best practices' in urban planning and design: these include wide streets, well-lit roads, pavements and public areas, after which appropriate surveillance technology can be effectively implemented.
At the moment, IIB and UEM Land are collaborating to provide a Nusajaya private security service. This includes surveillance cameras, vehicle scanners, car plate readers and other surveillance technology, complemented by fifty Auxiliary Police (AP) patrolling within Nusajaya, with staff strength set to gradually increase. IIB and UEM Land have also announced a collaboration with Cisco in July 2011 to develop an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Services Smart City master plan to transform Nusajaya into a Smart+Connected Community that is, at its core, secure.
Security services will be extended to both developers and investors, in addition to operators and residents. This is part of the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) by the Johor Police to enhance the security and safety of Iskandar Malaysia. All this will take collaboration among the central government, state government, Iskandar authority, stakeholders, investors and other related agencies to allow for better coordination of security.
The Malaysian government is the largest stakeholder in safeguarding Medini, and this can only be achieved with political stability. The government must ensure the consistent implementation of policies and a stable parliament in order to attract more investors and SMEs to Iskandar Malaysia.
To do so, better partnerships between the private and public sector will increase confidence in government support for development, thereby mitigating concerns over political risk. The Malaysian government is currently developing strategic projects and infrastructure delivery, such as the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), which aims to turn Malaysia into a high income economy by 2020. The latest pro-business budget unveiled by Prime Minister Najib Razak demonstrates the central government's supportive stance towards implementing projects, robust business processes and infrastructure that delivers results to its investors.
The Road Ahead: Partnerships
These factors underpin the basis of ensuring Iskandar Malaysia is a success: the need to build the right kind of partnerships. The proposed business park in Medini is already a positive step in the growth of the SME industry in the region. There is much to be hopeful for as Iskandar Regional Develop Authority (IRDA), the Federal Government body and IIB continue to drive the development of Medini by looking towards engaging both public and private sectors in effective partnerships. As the masterplanner for Medini, GCD intends to help further that cause to ensure that Medini and Iskandar Malaysia grow as a valuable and compelling investment decision for businesses.

4年前, Airasia已计划发展Iskandar国际航线,为什么到现在还没设行???Firefly 不见得搞得很好,是时候Airasia扩充Iskandar的国际航线了(如果没有政治干扰),不然Iskandar的旅游业很难持续发展!!!

When Iskandar is ready, we will already be a part of it,” said chief executive officer Datuk Tony Fernandes. “We are not waiting to see if Iskandar happens or not. We have faith in the state,” he added. AirAsia simultaneously launched direct flights from Johor Baru to Macau and Palembang in Indonesia yesterday. Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, Fernandes and AirAsia Deputy CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun welcomed 150 passengers from Macau who flew in on a new Airbus A320. Fernandes said he was happy with the response from the Macau flight which recorded a load factor of 85%, compared to an average of 70%. “It usually takes 18 months to develop a route but we have seen a 85% load factor already,” he said. Fernandes said the airline was targeting one million passengers via Senai Airport next year. With Macau and Palembang, AirAsia now has 84 flights weekly from Senai Airport. He added that he plans to open the no-frills hotel Tune Hotel in Danga Bay, Johor Baru. Abdul Ghani said he was honoured that AirAsia had chosen Senai Airport as the first destination to fly its new Airbus. “This signifies the airline’s commitment to enhance the connectivity in the region,” he said. |

Ascott Limited, CapitaLand’s wholly owned subsidiary, has signed its first serviced residences contract in Iskandar. The 204-unit Somerset Puteri Harbour is located in Iskandar’s Nusajaya economic zone and is scheduled for opening in 2013.
The contract is awarded by Nusajaya Consolidated Snd Bhd, which is a joint venture between United Malayan Land Bhd and UEM Land Berhad.
Lim Ming Yan, Ascott’s CEO, said: “Malaysia has strong growth potential for Ascott due to its resilient economy and attractiveness as a destination for foreign direct investments. The government has invested significant resources to develop the Iskandar region to spur the growth of Malaysia?s economy. Besides attracting investments of over RM70 billion (US$22.4 billion) from foreign and domestic companies, the large-scale tourism projects in Iskandar also bring tremendous opportunities for serviced residences. As the first international serviced residence provider in Nusajaya, Ascott is well positioned to tap on the burgeoning demand for quality accommodation from expatriates and travellers.”
Alfred Ong, managing director for Ascott Southeast Asia and Australia said the brand was pleased to add another city to its Malaysian portfolio which also cover Cyberjaya and Petaling Jaya. The company currently five properties with close to 700 apartment units with another 900 units scheduled for opening in the next five years.
“We will continue to look for opportunities to expand our footprint in Malaysia,” he said.
Somerset Puteri Harbour is located within Nusajaya which is becoming an important economic and industrial zone in Malaysia. It is a 20-minute drive from Malaysia-Singapore Second Link and a short distance away from Johor’s international airport. |

S'pore investments in Iskandar top RM4b, mostly in manufacturing sector

Singapore's cumulative committed investments into Iskandar Malaysia have totalled RM4.13 billion (S$1.7 billion) as at the end of June this year since 2006.
Out of this figure, RM3.67 billion of Singapore's investments were in the manufacturing sector in Iskandar Malaysia while the remaining RM463 million went into the Johor-based economic zone's services sector.
This committed capital inflow from Singapore formed 5.44 per cent of Iskandar Malaysia's total cumulative investment of RM75.96 billion in the corresponding period, up from 4.63 per cent until the end of 2010.
However, updating media yesterday at the sidelines of GES 2011, Ismail Ibrahim, chief executive of Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), said that the latest figures available for total committed cumulative investments into Iskandar Malaysia as at the end of September this year was as much as RM77.82 billion.
He told reporters that the exact corresponding figures for Singapore's investments were not yet available but Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) confirmed that in terms of investment quantum, Singapore ranked as the overall second largest investor into Iskandar Malaysia and the leading contributor in terms of the number of projects invested in. There are currently 256 Singaporean projects in Iskandar Malaysia.
Data provided to BT by Mida showed that Singapore's pledged RM3.67 billion into Iskandar Malaysia's manufacturing sector, up from RM517 million in 2006, placed it as the second largest investor in that sector, behind only Spain, in terms of the quantum of investment.
However, if measured by the number of projects, then according to Mida, Singapore is the leading investor into the manufacturing sector of Iskandar Malaysia, pipping Japan into the top spot.
In 2010, Singapore ranked fourth in terms of quantum of investment, behind East Asian countries Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan respectively.
In number of projects, however, Singapore was still the number one investor into Iskandar Malaysia's manufacturing industry last year, ahead of Japan and Taiwan.
As for the services sector, Mr Ibrahim said that, out of the 3 Singapore projects, more than RM100 million of Singapore's pledged investments were in the healthcare industry, which Mida confirmed as the actualised RM108.7 million investment by Singapore-listed Health Management International (HMI) into the 218-bed Regency Specialist Hospital on the eastern side of the Iskandar Malaysia region.
The other two Singaporean projects in the services sector in Iskandar Malaysia are the proposed Raffles University and the Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) campus.
Mr Ibrahim expressed confidence that Singapore investments will be coming out even stronger in the future, given the recent strengthening of bilateral ties, and that Singapore will be a major player in Iskandar Malaysia.
'Singapore's investment (in the manufacturing sector) has grown from slightly more than half a billion ringgit in 2006, to just more than a billion ringgit by last year and now to more than RM3 billion This is exponential growth and shows that Iskandar Malaysia and Singapore can remain in competition but continue in collaboration.' |

(吉隆坡讯)国际贸工部副部长慕克力指出,自日本311大地震和海啸,以及泰国近日发生严重水灾之后,该部已经接到一些原本准备到日本和泰国投资的厂商,有意把投资转到马来西亚。
不过他说,贸工部在这些国家招商引资时,会时刻保持高度敏感,以免被视为趁人之危。
《星洲日报》报道,他昨日在国会下议院回答民行党议员方贵伦的附加问题时说,贸工部未来在吸引外资时,会以马国没有发生天灾的优势作为卖点。
他说,除了没有发生天灾之外,马国也具备完善的设备和充足的熟练工人。“马来西亚只是偶尔会发生不是很大规模的水灾,因此,投资者可以安心。实际上,很多投资者都认为马来西亚是个适合投资的地点,尤其是对科技业而言。” |

(新山1日讯)英国安德鲁王子今天为设于马来西亚依斯干达特区教育城内的第一所国际大学——马来西亚纽卡斯尔医药大学(Newcastle University Medicine, NUMed)主持开幕。 这所大学耗资9000万令吉,也是英国纽卡斯尔大学在该国以外开设的第一所分校。 今天是安德鲁王子抵访步我国的第二天,陪同他出席仪式者包括马来西亚纽卡斯尔大学首席执行员立克佐登等、英国纽卡斯尔大学校长里安及副校长克里斯、柔州务大臣拿督阿都干尼及卫生部高官。 该大学已让80名修读医学系的学生从今年9月起在新校园上课,预计首五年招生超过180名,并将在2013年增设生物医药科学系学士课程及研究生教育课程。 里安指出,人们都应享有良好的医药和保健服务,而且这类服务应无疆界之分。 他说,这间分校将能为大马和国际学生提供跨国界的世界级英国医药学术教育。 立克佐登说,该分校正式开幕是一个重要的里程碑,也符合英国纽卡斯尔大学迈向国际化的愿景,从而与大马展开长期伙伴的合作关系。 他说,目前英国总校已调派7名医药学术人员到分校,另有50名来自我国和各国的学术职员在该大学服务。 |

Johor executive councillor for international trade and industry Tan Kok Hong said it was timely for developers to focus on this segment apart from the residential properties area. “Johor is still strong in the manufacturing sector and it remains one of the top three destinations for foreign direct investments (FDIs) in the country,’’ he said. Tan said this at the signing ceremony between Telekom Malaysia Bhdand UMLand Bhd’s subsidiary Dynasty View Sdn Bhd for the deployment and provision of TM’s high speed broadband (HSBB) network infrastructure and services. Meanwhile, Newcastle University MedicineMalaysia was officially launched in EduCity Iskandar Malaysia yesterday. The 13.5-acre project is Newcastle University’s first overseas venture and is the only British Medical School recognised by the General Medical Council outside of the UK. The RM90mil campus marks the successful completion ofIskandar Investment Bhd’s first development project on the back of completed infrastructure works earlier in the year. |
