When 0.62g of an unknown compound C reacts with PCL5, 0.448 dm3 (measured at stp) of white fumes are evolved and other products are formed.
a) identify the white fumes.
b) Identify C (Mr of C=0.62g mol-1, 1 mol of gas occupies 22.4 dm3 at stp)
There are several methods to prepare C. One of those is by using one of the products formed from the above reaction. Suggest the method. Name the mechanism involved.
Based on your knowledge on alkenes, suggest one other method to prepare C. Give the observation.

b) alcohol
one of the product is haloalkane so it is undergoes hydrolysis to produce alcohol
the mechanism involve is nucleophilic substitution.
add br in CCl4 into the alkene then add NaOH, then alcohol will produce.
observation : brown colour decolourise. |

请问一下 if T is placed before Cl in group 17 then doesn't it mean that T is more electronegative than Cl as T is placed above Cl???

如果huhuxboy还是看不懂的话,可以看看我的版
看看问题,会发现Cl react 跟那个compound
就说明,Cl是比较electronegative的,而T当然是比较electropositive了
因为,只有Cl-才能进行那个reaction,
而before Cl又比它electronegative的就只有flourine 罢了。。。
如果是那样的话,Cl 应该不是变成 Cl-,而会变成Cl+(form covalent,oxidation state 是+1的)

CH3COOH is partially dissociate in water..
thus the enthalpy change due to the unionised acid has to be coverted into ions should be positive..
so more energy need to be absorbed to ionise the CH3COOH..isnt it?
why the overall enthalpy change of neutralisation is less than -57kJmol-1?
should be GREATER or more positive than -57kJmol-1 right?
since energy adsorbed show positive enthalpy change..

so, RMM of compound c is 31 that is methanol
CH3OH + PCl5 ------> CH3Cl + POCl3 + HCl
chloromethane will undergoes hydrolysis to produce methanol again
CH3Cl + NaOH --------------> CH3OH + NaCl
H2O, reflux
reaction involve is nucleophilic substitution

对了啦。。
只不过少了一些 steps。。
0.02 mol of compound C is reacted。。
so 0.02 = 0.62/RMS
RMM stands for relative molecular mass。。
RMM = 31
RMM for methanol is 32。。
12 + 3 + 16 + 1 = 32 |
