KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — Malaysia has reported its first influenza A(H1N1) case involving a student who returned from the United States two days ago.

This was confirmed by Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai today.

“The student is now quarantined at the Sungai Buloh Hospital,” he told Bernama from London.

“The student returned to Malaysia on May 13 and the next day, he sought treatment when he felt unwell. The test confirmed that he has the H1N1 virus.”

Liow, enroute to Geneva, Switzerland to attend the World Health Organisation (WHO) General Assembly, was on transit in London.

He said health personnel were in the midst of tracking down all passengers on the student's flight and those who had come into contact with him since his return.

“This is urgent and all have to work together to prevent the spread of the disease in this country. We have initiated various preventive measures and the health department is working hard on the ground,” he said.

Liow also advised the public to be on high alert and immediately seek treatment if they feel unwell.

“The details of this first case will be given by the Health Ministry at a press conference at 4pm today,” he added. — Bernama

MALAYSIA'S No.2 rubber glove maker Supermax has seen demand for its products jump by around a third as a flu pandemic boosts sales for infectious control equipment, its chief said today.

Supermax’s factories are running at full capacity and the company has had to turn some customers away because it can’t keep up with demand, managing director Stanley Thai said.

“The flu outbreak is going to prolong for some time. For the rest of the year, glove companies should be very busy, their production capacity should be very full,” he said in an interview.

“For us, we are oversold. Right now, we have a happy problem to deal with,” said Thai, referring to plant capacity constraints.

Two months after the H1N1 virus was first reported in Mexico, the World Health Organisation on June 11 declared a flu pandemic and advised governments to prepare for a long-term battle against the virus. There are more than 40,000 confirmed cases of H1N1 worldwide.

Orders for rubber gloves are strong even for the usually quiet July-August period as worried customers stock up to combat the virus, Thai said.

Thai said he expects the price of latex, which accounts for about two-thirds of the company’s total costs, to remain soft, further boosting profit margins this year.

Latex prices are around RM3.90 per kilogram, but Thai said a fair price for the raw material at RM4.50 per kg.

Supermax, which sold about 11 billion gloves worldwide last year, aims to increase its production capacity by another 1.7 billion gloves by end-2010, said Thai.

The company, which ranks behind Top Glove Corp Bhd, has no plans to expand through acquisition, and would seek to further reduce its borrowings, Thai said.

But that should not alter its dividend policy of paying out about 20 per cent of net profit, he added.

Shares in Supermax have more than doubled so far this year, outpacing Top Glove’s 79 per cent increase and the main index’s 21 per cent gain. -- Reuters

其实我是想为什么supermx不起.
应为同行的每一个PE都在10或10+
只有supermx<10.
所以我看好supermx会起.
可能是之前他收购失败不看好...
stanley tai说他现在会专注在主业. 暂时不会再搞三搞四了. 同时他也正在建立他的glove city. 个人认为他是个有野心的人. 将来一定会在搞三搞四. 值得留意.
