19th April 2006: Rexit subsidiary gets Indonesia IT project
By Ashwin Raman
Rexit Bhd is venturing into Indonesia to provide information technology (IT) services to the financial and insurance industries in that country by partnering PT Swadayanusa Kencana Raharja.
Rexit signed a joint-venture agreement with PT Swadayanusa to set up a company, PT Rexit Indonesia, on April 19. Rexit would hold a 51% stake and the remaining 49% will be held by PT Swadayanusa.
The company said that one of Indonesia’s largest insurance company, PT Asuransi Sinar Mas, had agreed to outsource its operations to PT Rexit.
Rexit chief executive officer, Chung Hon Cheong, said the Indonesian venture is part of its expansion plans towards becoming a major e-Business service provider for the financial services and insurance sectors in the region.
“PT Rexit hopes to get more business from other financial services and insurance companies in the country in the future,” he said. |

May 26th 2006: Rexit plans to sell stake to Marubeni
REXIT Bhd, a firm that runs portals for the insurance industry, plans to sell a tenth of itself to Japanese general trading house Marubeni Corp, as it seeks to grow its business abroad.
The deal could cost Marubeni some RM33 million based on Rexit's last closing price of RM2.35 on May 24.
However, the plans are subject to regulatory and board approvals.
In a statement yesterday, Rexit said the proposed sale is part of the terms of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) it entered with Marubeni on Wednesday. |

5th June 2006: AmBank boosts car financing with Rexit's e-HP
By Ashwin Raman
AmBank (M) Bhd has subscribed to Rexit Bhd subsidiary Rexit Software Sdn Bhd's e-Hire Purchase (e-HP) services to maintain its market leadership position in car financing.
AmBank managing director for retail banking, Mohamed Azmi Mahmood, said it now held a 25% share of the hire purchase market and believed that e-HP would enhance its market position on the back of the Malaysian Automotive Association’s total industry volume forecast of 565,000 units this year.
He said the total outstanding value of AmBank’s car financing segment was RM25 billion. Ambank will officially launch the e-HP services on July 1.
Mohamed Azmi said through e-HP, AmBank car dealers could submit all their applications electronically direct to AmBank for processing and all application status could be checked online via this system.
“AmBank car dealers will not only benefit in terms of time saving and processing time, they will now enjoy greater flexibility to manage their overheads as the external delivery services are reduced,” he said. |

Rexit hits big time with Japanese JV
By C.S. Tan
PETALING JAYA: It was a landmark event for Malaysia although it may not have been discerned as such. Rexit Bhd's joint venture (JV) with Japan's Marubeni Corp, which was sealed on Thursday, might be have been seen as only one of numerous business partnerships.
But Marubeni is not partnering Rexit to look for business in Malaysia. The terms of the JV expressly state that the JV company would only take on business outside Malaysia.
So why would one of Japan's largest conglomerates want to partner with a Mesdaq-listed company to undertake software services in Japan and the rest of the world?
Marubeni is a behemoth with a total market value of about RM290bil compared with Rexit's market value of just RM390mil.
The Japanese company formed the JV with Rexit to gain access to the latter's software, which can manage an electronic gateway for the public, insurance companies and agents in the issuance of electronic cover (e-cover) notes for general insurance.
This is a break-through for science as it is very rare that a large Japanese corporation would seek technology from a Malaysian information technology (IT) company.
Rexit CEO Chung Hon Cheong is, nevertheless, humble about his company's accomplishment. He is still amazed that a Japanese giant would form a JV with his small company. “Sometimes, we still wonder why they're partnering us. There is a lot of knowhow we developed for which we didn't realise the potential,” he told StarBiz recently.
Under the terms of the JV, Rexit will continue to operate in Malaysia where it has a share of more than 50% of the market.
Its business outside Malaysia will be undertaken by the JV company, Rexit International Sdn Bhd, in which Rexit will own 51% and Marubeni, 49%.
For a start, Marubeni is expected to transfer its IT services for the insurance industry in Japan to Rexit International. To serve this new business, Rexit International will be employing about 300 technicians and engineers, who will be based in Kuala Lumpur. And this is the kind of skilled jobs that the country wants.
While these jobs pay well, it would cost a fraction of the income of engineers in Japan. “The cost for engineers in Japan will be four or five times more than (what) our engineers (earn) here,” Chung said.
In the first year, Rexit International will focus on the Japanese market while Marubeni will market its product through its offices worldwide.
The transfer of Marubeni's insurance IT services to Rexit International is a huge outsourcing job, and the combination of Marubeni's reputation and Rexit's software is expected to enable Rexit International to secure contracts from other insurers in Japan.
Interestingly, Marubeni is linked to Sompo Japan Insurance Inc and The Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire Insurance Co Ltd, the largest and second largest general insurance companies respectively in Japan, which have ownership links with Marubeni, the company's website shows. These links would help open doors for the marketing of Rexit's software.
Chung said the potential in Japan is huge because the general insurance market there is many times the size of the market in Malaysia.

November 22, 2006: Rexit enters 3 overseas markets
BY DANNY YAP
PETALING JAYA: Rexit Bhd, which aims to be a global web-portal designer for the insurance industry, plans to focus on three overseas markets initially – Japan, Thailand and Indonesia – to boost revenue.
“We recently set up a joint-venture (JV) company Rexit International Sdn Bhd to market our insurance software products abroad,” chief executive officer Chung Hon Cheong said.
“There should be substantial synergistic benefits from this partnership,” he told StarBiz, adding that Rexit International could leverage on Marubeni's strong brand name and extensive business network in Japan and globally.
Rexit International is 51% owned by Rexit, while Marubeni Corp, an established Japanese insurance company with 720 branches worldwide, owns the balance 49% stake.
“We want our insurance software products to be well accepted in Japan first before we start marketing them to other developed markets like the United States and Europe,” Chung noted.

November 28, 2006: Rexit plans call centre
By DALJIT DHESI
PETALING JAYA: Leading web-based insurance portal designer Rexit Bhd hopes to set up a call centre by June next year at its headquarters in Petaling Jaya as part its strategy to further penetrate the insurance market.
Chief executive officer Chung Hon Cheong said the centre, to be called e-Cover Customer Assist, would help strengthen the company's position in the market as well as provide value-added services to insurers and their customers.
“It will function as a customer assist centre. It is like to an insurance company outsourcing its call centre functions to us to handle enquiries and claims,'' he said in an interview.
Chung said that at present, eight general insurers were using Rexit's web-based software under the brand e-cover.

January 24, 2007: Rexit gains on bullish outlook by brokerage
By IZWAN IDRIS
Shares in Rexit Bhd gained yesterday after RHB Research Institute initiated coverage on the stock with a bullish outlook.
“We expect strong revenue growth from the Japan market,'' the firm said in a report yesterday.
Mesdaq-listed Rexit had formed a 51:49 joint venture with one of Japan's top conglomerates, Marubeni Corp, last October.
The target was to start selling Rexit's insurance software applications in Japan and overseas by June.
Marubeni owns Tokio Marine, the largest insurer in Japan.
RHB Research expects the partnership to translate into sharp increase in sales and earnings in fiscal ending June 30, 2008 (FY08) onwards.
“Although FY07 earnings multiple is at a premium to the market, we believe the good earnings visibility, high level of recurrent income, and strong FY08-FY09 earnings per share (EPS) growth estimates justify valuing the stock on a price-to-earnings growth (PEG) basis,'' it said.
RHB Research has an “outperform” call and a fair value target of RM3.08 on the stock.
The firm expects Rexit's net profit to grow to RM7.8mil, or 4.1 sen per share, in FY07, and to surge to RM23mil, or 12.2 sen per share, in FY08. The group's EPS was predicted to reach 36.2 sen in FY09.
