Times Square Mall set to be iconic landmark for Bintulu

BINTULU: The moniker ‘Times Square’ when mentioned in Malaysia, evokes images of the shopping mall owned by the Berjaya Group of companies in the heart of the nation’s capital, Kuala Lumpur.

Closer to home, Bintulu will soon have its modern shopping mall bearing the same name.
“The ‘Times’ name component in this instance, simply means that the design of the building is futuristic and ahead of time.
“On the other hand, the ‘Square’ portion of the name translates into a central gathering place for people from all walks of life in the immediate and surrounding vicinity,” explained Eric Tang, the managing director of Chieng Chuang Construction Sdn Bhd (Chieng Chuang Construction); the developer for the project.
Tang, whose company has been involved in the industry for the past 16 years revealed that Bintulu Times Square Mall was the second phase of his master plan of development on the prime and established residential hub along Tun Hussein Onn Road.
“I feel that the time is right for Bintulu to have a premier shopping mall as we have a significant market here to cater to. Instead of the locals taking off to Kuala Lumpur or overseas destinations for their shopping needs, why not build a mall right here in the heart of Bintulu to meet that demand?” enthused Tang.
As part of a 65-acre project development area which already has 400 units of residential houses surrounding the immediate mall site, Bintulu Times Square Mall will comprise more than 150 retail shops, supermarket, department store, restaurants and entertainment arcades.
The mall is concentrated on three main aspects; fashion and lifestyle, food and beverage (F&B) and entertainment.
“We want to have a great mix of tenants that cover these three core areas. Thus, we hope to entice franchise fast food outlets, franchise restaurants as well as those in the local food industry to be part of our unique mall.
“The same has to be said for that of fashion and lifestyle offerings. The entertainment zone will offer fun activities like video games and pool amongst others,” Tang elucidated.
Under a new plan, an interrupted entertainment floor with linked skybridges to a bowling centre, state-of-the-art cinema and F&B courtyard has been mooted.
“We are currently in negotiations with a national cinema operator and a few interested parties have enquired about the running of the supermarket as well as the departmental store,” Tang revealed with regards to the choice of tenants for the mall.
Perhaps, the defining aspect of this mall will be its unique feature of a landscaped environment and cascading waterfall at its main entrance.
In addition, Tang stated that the arrival bay will be shaded for the benefit of mall patrons in case of inclement weather.
Furthermore, with the ongoing discussion of ‘green buildings’ in the industry, he put forward the concept of the mall possibly having a skylight to provide natural lighting for the mall, and thus conserving energy.
“Another feature of the mall will be that of double decks with a 10-metre high void area at the entrance of the mall to enable shoppers to progressively view each particular floor’s offerings with a single glance.
“As the mall will be central to Bintulu’s up and coming happenings, the mall will have an area designated for local retailers, in which they have the option to lease or buy a shoplot. I want the locals to feel that they are part of the mall; as business owners or patrons,” Tang concurred.
To further complement the mall’s ‘under one roof’ concept, an exhibition hall will be part of the overall design.
This will provide Bintulu Times Square Mall with the facilities to host events such as new car launches, fashion events, beauty pageants, meet-the-singer fan sessions and vibrant parties in the form of New Year countdowns and also festive events like Hari Raya and Chinese New Year.
The mall will also include a total of 1,000 parking bays; 450 indoor lots and 500 outdoor ones.
With a gross area of 400,000 square feet (sq ft) and net lettable area (NLA) of 200,000 sq ft, the proposed entertainment floor will further add another 100,00 sq ft to both the gross area and NLA numbers.
On another note, the individual shop lots’ space will range from 300 sq ft to 580 sq ft; up to 850 sq ft for the island shop lots.
Architects 61, an internationally renowned architect firm from Singapore is responsible for the design and counts UOB Plaza I and II and the Singapore Exchange Centre amongst its stable of creations.
The mall’s soft launching started yesterday (October 1) and will end this Sunday (October 3). Interested parties are welcome from 10am to 10pm at ParkCity Mall, Bintulu to find out more about this development. Its construction is scheduled to begin in November.

期待两年后的完成品,希望不负大众所望 。
零售面积占20万平方尺,有spring一半的面积,在人口20万的地区里算很大的了,跟诗巫的Star Megamall差不了多少 。。。 |

每次去民都鲁只会去 park city mall 走吧了...
剩的就驾车转转...
其余时间就是喝喝茶,不然就是酒店睡大觉了...
希望这间可以快快完工...
