Barcelona defender and Liverpool target Martin Montoya is holding new contract talks with the Spanish giants according to his agent. Montoya’s agent Josep Maria Orobitg has been quoted by Sky Sports in saying: “Right now we're going on with negotiations with Barcelona to try to extend the contract….The most likely thing is that the player stays in Barcelona. We'll see what happens.” The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield for some time now, as well as being rumoured with Italian heavyweights Inter Milan, Napoli and Roma. Montoya, whose contract was due to run out at the end of the season, has made 33 La Liga appearances in his last three seasons for the Spanish league champions. It is a further blow for Liverpool boss Brendan Rogers after potential loan targets Ryan Bertrand and Ola John joined Aston Villa and Hamburg respectively. Young English winger Tom Ince is reportedly set to sign for Monaco also. Long-term target Carlos Zambrano has turned down a new deal at Frankfurt though which gives Rogers hope, and reports are flying around that a move for Peruvian winger Jefferson Farfan is on the cards. |
