As Stewart Downing finalises the move that will make him the fourth most expensive signing in Liverpool's history, he finds himself at the centre of a fierce debate - is he worth it?
It has taken a deal that will rise to £20million to prise the winger from Aston Villa and some are wondering whether Liverpool have been forced to pay well over the odds for a man who does not have a reputation for striking fear into opposition supporters.
But, despite the misgivings among some fans, Kop idol Jamie Carragher is certain Downing has the attributes to be a key player at Anfield.
