Thank you for your interest in studying at NUI, Galway. We will accept an application from UEC/MICSS holders for non-medicine courses.

The NUI, Galway prospectus for undergraduate courses is available at http://www.nuigalway.ie/undergrad/

Applications for undergraduate courses in 2009/10 (with the exception of Medicine) should be submitted on the attached application form directly to: International Affairs Office, NUI, Galway, 7 Distillery Road, Galway, Ireland.  There is no application fee.   Applicants who wish to apply for Medicine should contact the Admissions Office (admissions@nuigalway.ie).

The requirement for applying to NUI Galway for undergraduate courses is that the applicant has completed the equivalent of the Irish Leaving Certificate or GCE A levels. This is the school exit examination taken by students completing their second level education.

Students from outside of Ireland whose first language is not English must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the required standard for admission. The required standard is results from an acceptable English language proficiency test, an overall minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (with not less that 5.5 in any one component) or equivalent for Arts, Commerce, Law, and Medical programmes; IELTS score of 6.0 (with not less that 5.5 in any one component) or equivalent for Science, Engineering, and I.T. programmes, undertaken no more than two years prior to the commencement of your programme at the University.   For details on English Language Proficiency Tests, e.g., TOEFL or IELTS, see www.ets.org/toefl/ and http://www.ielts.org/ for information on testing centres and dates. Note: the NUI Galway TOEFL institution code is 8861.

Please ensure that supporting documentation evidencing qualifications and English language competency is submitted with your application.  Copies of originals must be certified as true copies. Please note that original documents submitted cannot be returned.

The Fee schedule for NUI, Galway courses can be found at http://www.nuigalway.ie/administ ... oneu_schedule.html.   Fee queries can be addressed to the Fees Office at fees@nuigalway.ie.  Please note that annual tuition fees must be paid in full prior to registering as a student.

Non EU/EEA applicants should refer to the website of the Irish Naturalisation & Immigration Service (www.inis.gov.ie) to determine whether they require a visa to enter Ireland.  A list of visa required countries is available on the website. Applicants from visa required countries must possess a valid study visa to study in Ireland.  All non-EU/EEA students must register with the Garda National Immigration Bureau within 30 days of arriving in Ireland. We are pleased to informed that Malaysian students graduated with UEC certificate are recognised as have received 12 years formal education to further study in Japan. If you wish to further your higher education in Japan, you need to go through the necessary admission examinations required by the Japanese university/ies of your choice. In general, most Japanese universities conduct their undergraduate level programmes in Japanese language; in other words, one needs to have Japanese language proficiency to further study in Japan.

There are also some undergraduate programmes conduct in English medium in Japan. Undergraduate programmes  which conduct their courses in English medium in general enroll international students based on documentation screening only, please log on to the below for further details:

Thanks for your email, it was directed to me by the Alliance Francaise.

UECqualifies you to apply to any university in France, for the 1st year ofthe bachelor, as it is considered equivalent to A-level.
However,when applying to a bachelor degree in France, you also need to take aFrench proficiency test (DELF B2 or TCF-DAP) because most courses aretaught in French.

The application procedure is as follow:
-fromDec 1st 2009, you can get the application form from me, the deadlinefor submission is January 31st, 2010 with all required documents (UEC +translation, resume,...), you can select 3universities;
- mid-Feb 2010, French proficiency test (for students who do not possess a DELF B2 already);
- results from the university are known from the month of May;
- intake is in Sept.

The application deadline for this September intake is passed.

Thank you very much for your mail and interest in studying in Germany. Please allow me to give you a brief overview of the higher education system in Germany. Detailed information can be found in our attached 『Study Guide to Germany'.

There are basically three options within the German education system:

-traditional German degree courses: Diplom, Magister or Staatsexamen (all equivalent to a Master's degree)
-Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programmes in the German language
-International Bachelor's, Master's and PhD Programmes (conducted either completely in English or bilingually).


You can find a current list of the International Programmes in our online database at
http://www.daad.de/deutschland/studienangebote/international-programmes/07535.en.html. You can also visit our Information Center to pick up a brochure. Please provide us with your postal address, if you would like to receive our brochure via mail.                                             

To enter a higher-education institution in Germany, applicants from Malaysia are generally required to have STPM or A levels. The UEC certificate, is unfortunately not accepted as a direct entry requirement into a German university. With a UEC cert you may apply to a 1 year 'study preparation course' at a Study Preparation College.
In addition, German language skills can be required depending on the programme. While regular courses in the German language require a high level of proficiency, international degree programmes usually only require basic German or even no German at all.

The academic year in Germany starts in October (major intake). Some universities also offer a minor intake for programmes starting in April. For information on application deadlines please visit the above database or contact the international office of the university. Public universities in Germany charge only very moderate tuition fees or even no fees at all. Where fees are charged, these amount to 500-600 Euro (RM2500–3000) per semester. Living expenses in Germany average 600 Euro a month (RM3000).

Yes, the admissions office will accept the MICSS UE certificate for evaluation purposes .  You will need to make sure that you do have the required prerequisite coursework for the program that you are interested in.  Please do make sure that you take a look at

It is quite competitive to enter most programs at UBC, and the average for admission is based on a competitive average, which means that it changes each year and for each program.

We do not accept the UEC for admission to our University .

If English is not your native language your English proficiency is determined by the TOEFL exam. Typically, a score of 260 (computer based), 100 (internet based) or 600 (paper exam) on the TOEFL is required. If you have taken the SAT Reasoning Test and have scored a 600 or better on the Critical Reading section, the TOEFL is not necessary. To be successful at Carnegie Mellon University, students who are non-native speakers of English need to begin their undergraduate work with a strong foundation in academic English and a high level of proficiency with speaking, reading and writing in English. The importance of English language abilities can not be overstated since there are no basic ESL language courses at Carnegie Mellon. All students will have sufficient English language proficiency to be able to participate fully in the academic work and to interact in daily life outside of the classroom. To assess the language of nonnative speaking applicants, a minimum score of 600 (Paper Based), 100 (internet based) or 260 (Computer Based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) has been established as the standard for admission. This minimum score indicates that an applicant has the fundamental building blocks of language needed for academic tasks and for continued language development.
