MSIAN MAN ARRESTED AT WOODLANDS CHKPT WITH $30,000 WORTH OF DRUGS
ICA arrested a Malaysian man at the Woodlands Checkpoint and seized 460g of heroin worth more than $30,000. If found guilty, the 31 year old man is liable for the death penalty under the Misuse of Drugs Act if the trafficked amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) exceeds 15g. The man riding a Malaysia-registered motorcycle was stopped by a checkpoint officer for inspection at about 3:40am. In a statement, the ICA said the checkpoint officer found a bag of heroin in the motorcycle and that the man was promptly arrested. “The suspect, (his) motorcycle and the seized exhibit were referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) for further investigations. “Another bag of heroin was found by CNB officers thereafter,” it said. Home Team will continue to conduct checks on passengers and vehicles at checkpoint to prevent attempts to smuggle in undesirable persons, drugs, weapons, explosives and other contrabands.
